CLOS DU MONT OLIVET CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2010, FRANCE
The flagship wine is composed predominately of Grenache (around 80%), with Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault rounding out the blend. Pure ruby in the glass. Aromas of incense and warm sandalwood, with notes of espresso and grilled apricots. The mouth is supple, fresh and textured, with black and red fruits, pepper and soy sauce.
"Deep ruby-red. Ripe red and dark berry scents are complicated by notes of garrigue and licorice. Lush, sappy black raspberry and mulberry flavors are lifted by a zesty mineral note and a hint of cracked pepper. Shows good heft and finishes with sweet, clinging red fruit character. Lots of power here but this wine is carrying no excess poundage."

CHAPOUTIER TOURNON SHIRAZ "SHAY'S FLAT VYD" VICTORIA 2011, AUSTRALIA
Famed French winemaker Michel Chapoutier has had his hand in Australian vineyards since 1997 and bought two vineyards in Victoria's Pyrenees in 2009. Challenged to create a great Shiraz true to its unique terroir yet reminiscent of its French origins, Michel's Victorian vineyards were carefully selected for their superior aspects and the characteristics that their souls impart to the wine. This single-estate wine encompasses Michel's respect for the soil, climate and human know-how, bringing an extrordinary characteristic to this wine.
"These wines are of very high quality and deserve readers attention. Hopefully my prose has convinced more than a handful of readers to try these remarkable wines from one of the most fascinating and compelling personalities in the entire wine world, and one dedicated to the highest quality."

ELYSE ZINFANDEL MORISOLI VYD NAPA VALLEY 2008, CALIFORNIA
The 2008 vintage is dark ruby colored, with aromas of
perfectly ripe berries, sweet oak, and spice. On the lush
and pleasing palate, flavors of raspberries and plum
dominate, while black pepper, smoked bacon, and
candied cherries round out the experience. This wine
shows layers of gorgeous fruit with a deep, underlying
complexity that is so characteristic of this vineyard.
"Plenty of Zinny character in this lusty, spicy young wine. It shows how well Zin ripens in a good Napa vineyard. With firm, supporting tannins, its bone dry and rich in wild berry, pepper, bacon and cinnamon spice flavors, with just a hint of raisining in the finish."

WALTER HANSEL PINOT NOIR RRV CUVEE ALYCE 2010, CALIFORNIA
"The 2010 Pinot Noir Cuvee Alyce is surprisingly plush and deep in this vintage. This is a more overt, fruit-driven style than I would have expected considering the year. Black cherries, currants, licorice and tobacco saturate the palate in this fleshy, deep Pinot. The 2010 Cuvee Alyce is all about rich, textured fruit."
"The estates 2010 Pinot Noir Cuvee Alyce is the ripest and flashiest of these wines. Some readers may appreciate the pure exuberance and flashiness of the Cuvee Alyce, although personally I find more finesse in some of the other wines. Cola, black cherries, French oak and spices blast through to the juicy, expressive finish."

BRITTAN VINEYARDS BASALT BLOCK PINOT NOIR 2009, OREGON
The Basalt block comes from the parts of the vineyard that have the heaviest concentration of broken sub-marine basalts, resulting in low yielding vines that produce intense flavors and layers of complexity. The 2009 vintage in the Willamette Valley was a warm vintage that produced wines with rich flavors of raspberries, blueberries and dark chocolates, underscored by a hint of allspice. The soft tannins are perfectly balanced with bright acidity, and the wine displays a long, lingering finish of plums and sweet spice.
