DOM PHILIPPE CHARLOPIN MARSANNAY 2008, FRANCE
Lovely ruby in color, Marsannay 2008 clearly expresses red fruit aromas. The nose is also infused with menthol, which contributes great freshness. In the mouth, this wine is complex, with lots of substance and good persistence. Pleasant to taste now, while possessing great structure for cellaring.
"Riper, bigger and more aromatically complex and the complexity carries into the rich, sappy, medium weight flavors that offer good power for Marsannay and a lovely textured quality on the backend." Berghound 91 Pts

DOM XAVIER MONNOT POMMARD 2006, FRANCE
A distinctly earthy and moderately high-toned nose of mostly red fruit with a touch of blueberry and underbrush that is picked up by the nicely rich, balance and pure middle weight flavors that offer lovely balance and fine finishing persistence. There is a trace of backend rusticity but otherwise, this is a lovely villages that should age reasonably well over the next few years.

DONNAFUGATA TANCREDI 2006, ITALY
The estate harvests Cabernet Sauvignon (30%) and Nero d'Avola (70%) during the month of September. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in new and second passage, French-oak barrels for 12-14 months. The two varieties fuse in fine style. The Cabernet gives the Nero d'Avola a touch of mint, enriching its substantial supply of scents. Notes of licorice, cacao, cherries and bilberries against a sweetish background. The flavors are well-structured, full, absorbing and remarkably persistent. It is the perfect marriage of new and old world. Rich yet subtle. Great with pasta, meats and stews.

MI SUENO CELLARS CAB EL LLANO 2008, CALIFORNIA
We recently hosted a tasting of high-end California wines and this was one of the stand-outs among top competition. It is without question one of the best California red blends we've come across in many years. "Mi Sueño" is Spanish for "My Dream" and it is produced by brothers Raul and Ricardo Herrera. Their wines are the end result of many years of working and making wine at some of the top wineries in California. Raul was the winemaker for Paul Hobbs and his brother Ricardo was the cellar master at Dominus and assistant winemaker at Screaming Eagle. This winery is their dream come true of producing world class wines - and they have succeeded brilliantly.
This is a blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance Syrah, from vineyards near Caldwell's in the Coombsville area of Napa. The Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and depth while the Syrah contributes color and aromatics. In the end, what you get is an incredibly luscious, full-bodied, multi-layered, deeply concentrated wine that can proudly stand up against wines bearing much heftier price tags! Expressing notes of molasses, freshly-cracked pepper and a dash of pilonsillo. Deep and dark, with cedar components and focused dark fruits both on the nose and palate. Long, solid and balanced, with just enough oak to compliment but not dominate.
Wow - what a wine! It is deep, dark, purple-black in color and loaded with a bouquet of rich red and black fruit. Accented by an explosion of exotic spice, dark chocolate, graphite, ground pepper and roasted espresso beans. Luscious and velvety on the palate, it shows an impeccable balance between richness and balance with great concentration and ripe-polished tannins. A hint of warm toasty oak contributes to a long, satisfying finish. One of the best Cabernet blends you'll drink from California - a real blockbuster!

CH GISCOURS MARGAUX 2008, FRANCE
The long, late harvest resulted in such ripeness at Ch. Giscours that, for the first time since 1995, 5% Cabernet Franc was of high enough quality to be added to the blend (along with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot). Lower than normal yields have created a concentrated wine with a creamy blackcurrant palate, fine-grained tannins and spicy, oak complexity. Almost Burgundian in structure, there is a lovely roundness to this wine which is completed by an impressively long finish: a beautiful wine. Drink 2013 - 2025
The sexy, opulent 2008 Giscours exhibits plenty of dark fruit, forest floor, and earthy notes, sweet, velvety tannin, and good fresh acids. This medium to full-bodied effort should prove to be outstanding with more time. Dark plum/garnet, this elegant, medium to full-bodied, beguiling, seductive 2008 is a sleeper of the vintage. Round and silky-smooth with lovely black cherry and black currant fruit imbued with touches of smoke, herbs and earth, this relatively evolved effort is best consumed over the next 15-17 years.

CHEVAL DES ANDES RED 2006, ARGENTINA
Awarded "BEST BLEND" of 2011!
This wine has a deep black cherry color with aromas of dried apricots and floral notes that mix with warm scents of tobacco, red berry fruit macerated in brandy, home-made jam, together with cedar-wood, bay leaves and chocolate. The palate is balanced, with freshness and minerals coming through on the mid-palate, along with black currant, spices and almond. Highly integrated, sweet tannins mingle with a long and elegant finish. Carefully controlled yields, no use of herbicides, bunch thinning and extreme care in the working of the soil.
"The 2006 vintage is superb throughout Mendoza and this wine shows off the extra dimension of complexity made possible in an exceptional year. The wine is composed entirely of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a bit more saturated than the 2005 with a splendid perfume of pain grille, mineral, espresso, black cherry, and black raspberry that leaps from the glass. More opulent and layered than the 2005, it also conceals a bit more structure. The finish seems to go on and on."

RADIO COTEAU SAVOY ANDERSON PINOT NOIR 2009, CALIFORNIA
This elegant Pinot is medium ruby in color, and lifted in the nose with cherry bloom and cinnamon. The aromatics are also filled with cranberry tart, spring rain, earl gray tea and gravel minerality. The mid palette is opulent for pinot, with fresh cherry as well as clove spice. There is a cardamom perfume that is prevalent on the nose and palette. The wine is balanced with firm tannins and bright acid, with a long cherry tart finish. This beautifully balanced wine will age gracefully over the next 7 years, from 2010 to 2017.

DOM MATROT MEURSAULT-CHARMES 1ER CRU 2009, FRANCE
The Matrot domaine is one of the oldest estate-bottlers in Burgundy and one of the largest and most important properties in Meursault. It is widely represented on the wine lists of France's greatest restaurants and has been distributed in the United States for over thirty years. Matrot works towards the goal of producing a wine that retains its elegance while maximizing both the fruit and the native tang of the soil.
A very fresh nose that is distinctly exotic in character gives way to round and exceptionally rich medium-bodied flavors that carry the illusion of sweetness onto the beautifully complex and seductive finish.

LIGER BELAIR GEVREY CHAMBERTIN LA CROIX DE CHAMPS 2009, FRANCE
(30% vendange entier; from 60-year-old vines planted "on the wrong side of the road") Good deep red. Spicy red fruit aromas lifted by a floral nuance. Juicy rather than fleshy, with good energy from the stem component. Distinctly wild notes of gibier and smoke. A leaner style in the context of the vintage but already boasts enticing inner-mouth perfume.

CH LEOVILLE POYFERRE ST JULIEN 2008, FRANCE
"One of the finest over-achieving efforts in this vintage as well as a best buy for a top-flight St.-Julien, this 2008 is an irresistible success. It reveals an opaque ruby/purple color, lots of unctuosity and a boatload of sweet cassis and black cherry fruit intertwined with notions of licorice, smoke and oak. Full-bodied, remarkably concentrated and stunningly pure and textured, this sensational wine is already drinking well, and will be even better with 2-3 years of cellaring. It should last for 20-25 years. Bravo!"
