DOM LAFAGE GRENACHE NOIR 2010, FRANCE
Proprietor and winemaker Jean-Marc Lafage has fashioned a knock-out red wine that sells for a ridiculously low price. Made from 100% Grenache aged six months on its lees in older barrels, the 2010 Cuvee Nicolas Vieilles Vignes reveals serious glycerin along with a sexy, open-knit, fruit-forward style with oodles of raspberry, black currant, cherry and kirsch liqueur characteristics. Medium-bodied, round, supple, heady and succulent, this is a big, lusty red for true hedonists. It is one of the finest 100% Grenache cuvees currently on the market at this price point and quality level.

BEGALI VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO SUPERIORE RIPASSO 2010, ITALY
The Begali family have owned their Veneto farm for more than 100 years and have been making wine commercially for nearly 30. This deep, rich, Valpolicella is made from classic grapes for the DOC and then allowed to macerate (soak) on the skins of dried grapes used for the estate's Amarone. Bright cherry smells and flavors mingle with tarry, earthy, notes. Good acidity, smooth texture, and just a hint of tannin on the bright, ripe, finish.

DESERT DOVE CHARDONNAY SANTA BARBARA 2009, CALIFORNIA
This new release from Desert Dove is pure, balanced and generous. The 2009 vintage was relatively dry, warm and trouble free giving us a wine that is pure, balanced and generous. The nose is packed with stone fruit, fig, honey, spice and red apples. The palate is both crisp and concentrated with a mineral finish. It's a great easy drinking Chardonnay.

This lovely Sauvignon Blanc carries notes of herbs and gooseberries on the nose. Medium-bodied, crisp and dry, it has flavors of smoky minerals, juicy tangy citrus and pink grapefruit on the finish. Drink as an aperitif or with seafood, pasta and poultry. A classic Sancerre, with finesse and complexity; a wonderful expression of terroir, showing bright citrus fruit and hints of flint stone. Very fruity, well-balanced, with excellent development and a fresh and persistent palate.

BODEGAS CONVENTO DE LAS CLARAS RIBERA DEL DUERO 2011, SPAIN
Another knock-out offering from a winery founded in 2010, with some vineyards dating back to 1900, the 2011 Las Claras was aged in French oak, most of it new, for eight months prior to bottling. This fabulous bargain over-delivers in every sense. Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by abundant notes of lead pencil shavings, white chocolate, espresso roast and creme de cassis. This modern-styled Spanish, super-rich, intense red takes ripeness to the limit. Consume it over the next 7-8 years.
