This 92-pt California Cabernet is an amazing bargain!

Z. ALEXANDER BROWN'S 2019 "UNCAGED" CABERNET SAUVIGNON IS ONLY $16.98!!

"Distinctive and seductive, with a mélange of dark red fruit, mocha, and cedar in a generous and round body. This red unites power with princely charm."— Tasting Panel, 92 points

In the perpetual hunt for great wines at modest prices, it is increasingly rare to find California Cabernet Sauvignon that can meet both parts of that equation.  Finding impressive California Cab isn't too difficult, and there are quite a few inexpensive options as well, but, to paraphrase Kipling, the twain rarely meet.  So today's feature wine, the 2019 Z Alexander Brown "Uncaged" Cabernet Sauvignon, is a welcome discovery!  "Uncaged" is a truly impressive Cabernet that captures California's trademark fruity richness while also echoing the balance of Cabernet-based blends from France's famed Bordeaux region.  And as to the affordable part of the equation, our sale price of $16.98 puts this delicious Cab in the "everyday" price category!

"Zac" Brown (of the Zac Brown Band) is a Grammy award-winning musician, and since founding Z. Alexander Brown Winery in 2016, he has been one of the few celebrities whose passion for wine actually translates into a top-notch and affordable product.  His "Uncaged" Cabernet carries the appellation of "California"; but it far exceeds the quality of most such broadly appellated wines!  We don't know precisely where the fruit comes from (the winery only says "from Northern California Coastal vineyards"), but this is high-quality fruit, reflected by the wine's power, body, well-integrated tannins, and long, lovely finish.  If we were blind tasting the 2019 "Uncaged", we'd assume it to cost considerably more than our current sale price- it compares well with Golden State Cabs pricing in the $20-25 range.  As a case in point, in rating the wine 90 points,  Wine Enthusiast's description sounds like that of a pricier Cab: "This sturdy, deeply flavored wine checks all the boxes for excellent Cabernet. It shows subtle oak-spice aromas, concentrated black-cherry flavors and lavish fine-grained tannins that massage the palate."

If you are a fan of top-flight California Cabernet but dismayed by its rising price, Z Alexander Brown's "Uncaged" Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is a great opportunity to obtain the quality you crave at a price you can afford.  "Uncaged" is a wine we've carried on and off for years, and the wine's pedigree is really superb- more often than not, it sports a 90-plus point rating- and the 2019 vintage may be the best yet!  We never judge a wine by its label, and celebrity tie-ins don't impress us.  At Finewine.com, it's all about the wine...and this fantastic value will not disappoint at our Wine of the Week sale price of just $16.98!  Call 301-987-5933 or order online NOW.

The Wines of South America

October 13 & 14 @ 7PM

As many as a dozen classic wines with light fare to complement them!

South America is a prolific source of great wine values, but also home to some truly distinctive wines that rank among the greatest in the world.  Malbec from Argentina's Mendoza region is immensely popular, and will be represented by some stellar examples in this class.  But there is much more to South American wine than Malbec, including rich Cabernet Sauvignons, world-class Bordeaux blends, classic varietals such as Tannat and Cabernet Franc, and lesser-known varietals well worth discovering, such as Bonarda and Torrontes.  In this class, we'll explore wines from the world-renowned wine regions of Argentina and Chile, but we'll also sample wines from off the beaten path, including from Uruguay and Brazil.  Ranging from the ultra-popular to the somewhat obscure, this class will be packed with can't miss wines that, well...you won't want to miss!

So join us in October for the next in our series of wine classes: “The Wines of South America”.  We’ll taste and compare as many as 12 classic wines, and we’ll offer some light hors d’oeuvres to complement the wines.  Tasting classes at Finewine.com are geared to both beginners and experienced wine aficionados alike, and this class will offer a little something for everyone.  So join the expert Finewine.com staff as we explore the often eclectic and sometimes spectacular wines of this innovative new world region.  Come taste, learn, discuss and enjoy!

"Dark ruby. Spice-accented dark berries, mocha and pungent flowers on the deeply perfumed nose. Appealingly sweet black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors become livelier and pick up a hint of vanilla with air. The blue fruit and floral notes repeat on the impressively long, penetrating finish, which features polished tannins and a hint of white pepper. Drink from 2022- 2028"— Vinous Media, 92 points
