THIS 94-PT SPANISH RED IS EVERYTHING WE LOVE ABOUT SPANISH WINE!

BODEGAS CASTANO'S 2017 SOLANERA VINAS VIEJAS IS ONLY $19.48!

“Beautiful, with lots of cassis, blackberry, graphite, camphor, and acacia flower notes on the nose, the 2017 Vinas Viejas hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, elegant texture, ripe tannins, and a gorgeous finish.” - Jeb Dunnuck, 94 points

The old maxim says that "A picture is worth a thousand words", and if we adapted that to the world of fine wine, it would probably come out to be something like "One sip is worth a thousand lengthy, gaseous, adjective-laden descriptions...", or words to that effect.  Today's feature wine is a great case in point.  The red wines of Spain are among the most popular at Finewine.com, and if you are among the uninitiated who aren't sure why, one sip of Bodega Constano's Solanera 2017 will do more to explain than all of the verbiage (lengthy, gaseous, adjective-laden, or otherwise) that follows in this newsletter!  The 2017 Solanera is simply delicious, and it tastes like it costs a lot more than our sale price of $19.48!

If you're looking for a Spanish Red that sums up what the world most appreciates about a "Rojo", Bodega Costano's "Solanera" is it!  When we tasted it recently, we were really impressed by the richness and complexity of this red, which is a characteristically eclectic Spanish blend of 65% Monastrell, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Garnacha Tintorera (AKA, Alicante Bouschet).  As with all the best blends, the whole is greater than the sum of the complementary parts, and this is also a "viñas viejas"- that is, a wine created from old vines.  The result is superb, as validated by Decanter Magazine, which described it as "Mature, ripe, sweet, a very alluring blend. Big, expressive and rich, yet with a tight frame. Chocolatey finish. Good regional typicity."  That description nicely summarizes this big, rich blend!

Spanish Rojo comes in many different styles; these reds can range from elegant to powerful, from oaky to more fruit-forward, from straightforward to complex.  Bodega Constano's Solanera 2017 definitely leans towards the rich and complex part of the Spanish flavor spectrum, reflecting the big, expressive grapes that comprise this harmonious blend.  This is a palate-coating beauty, perfect for those trying to discover the glory of Spanish Rojo- and also perfect for those already familiar with its virtues!  This big red is a real bargain at our sale price of only $19.48Order online or stop by the store today!

Don't miss our next great wine tasting class:

The Pinot Family: The First Family of Wine

November 10 & 11 @ 7PM

As many as 12 classic wines with light fare to complement them!

In the world of fine wine, “Pinot” starts some of the most familiar names in the business, such as Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio, and all grapes with the “Pinot” prefix are in fact closely related.  These grapes form what we're calling the “First Family” of wine- a family that includes Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris (AKA, Pinot Grigio), and of course, Pinot Noir.  Pinot Noir is the acknowledged star of the family, source of some of the greatest red wines in both the old world and the new.  But though less well-known to American consumers, Pinot Noir’s lighter-skinned siblings produce some of the world’s great white wines.  In this class we’ll explore these three great grapes, and sample great examples from regions as disparate as France’s Burgundy, America’s Willamette Valley, the Alsace region of France, and Italy’s Alto Adige (and yes, a very high-quality Pinot Grigio- Italian for Pinot Gris- may make an appearance).

So join us in November for the next in our series of wine classes: “Pinot- The First Family of Wine”.  We’ll taste and compare as many as 12 classic wines, and we’ll offer some light hors d’oeuvres to complement the wines.  Tasting classes at Finewine.com are geared to both beginners and experienced wine aficionados alike, and this class will truly offer a little something for everyone.  So join the expert Finewine.com staff as we explore the fantastic family of grapes that gives rise to some of the world's greatest wines.  Come taste, learn, discuss and enjoy!
