Our lowest price ever- and the nation's best price- on our Favorite Willamette Valley Pinot Noir!

For a limited time only: Walnut City Wineworks WV Pinot Noir is only $16.98!!

"This classic Oregon Pinot Noir incorporates dark cherry, wild raspberry, and a cranberry-like fruit, balanced with ample acidity.  Trace notes of deep mocha build on the mid-palate.   A great example of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir."

Opportunity comes in many guises, and today it takes the form of one of the most popular wines at Finewine.comWalnut City Wineworks crafts wines in Oregon's famous Willamette Valley, home to what many consider the greatest of all American Pinot Noirs- and perhaps the greatest produced anywhere outside of their ancestral home in the Burgundy region of France.  Walnut City is a small-volume producer with which we have a special relationship (about which more later), and many of you are already familiar with their delicious Willamette Valley Pinot Noir (currently the 2019 vintage).  This Pinot is a bargain from the start, crafted from the fruit of sustainably-farmed single-vineyard sites that command much higher prices than this bottling.  This week we're offering our lowest price ever on this delicious Pinot Noir at only $16.98- the lowest price anywhere in the county!  But this price will not hold for long!!

Native Oregonian Michael Lundeen has been crafting Walnut City's wines since 2010, and his influence has been profound.  He originally honed his Pinot skills at famous wineries including Domaine Serene, and he did a stint abroad with Castello di Verduno, the historic Piedmontese estate in Barolo.  His leading role in Willamette Valley began in 2007, as founding winemaker at Oregon's Illahe Vineyards- a role that established him as a man who could manage the finicky Pinot Noir grape.  Michael’s Walnut City wines favor varietal and regional authenticity over flash, and they benefit from his use of techniques such as whole cluster fermentation and careful extraction methods to maximize character.  One result is that Walnut City's Willamette Valley Pinot Noir has been our best-selling Pinot for several years running!

The secret to our fantastic price is that Walnut City wines come to us "winery direct", bypassing the labyrinthine (and expensive) Montgomery County ABS system.  This rare winery-direct process is permitted for low-volume producers like Walnut City, and the result is a world-beating price not even matched at the winery (Walnut City's best price on this bottling is just under $19).  We have now carried 7 vintages of this delicious Pinot Noir, but this is the lowest price we've ever offered.  If you've never tasted Walnut City's Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, this is the perfect time to see what makes this one of our most popular wines year after year.  And if you have tasted it- and like most of our customers, loved it- now's the perfect time to stock up at our Wine of the Week price of just $16.98!  Call 301-987-5933 or order online NOW.

Don't miss this special Thursday Tasting!

Bryn Mawr Vineyards' David Lauer- Thursday, Feb 24, 5pm to 7pm

Finewine.com is thrilled to welcome David Lauer of Bryn Mawr Vineyards, selected as one of the Top 100 Wineries in the World in 2017 by Wine & Spirits Magazine!  David will pour 4 delicious wines for your free tasting pleasure, including the current vintage of Bryn Mawr's classic Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.  He will also share three other Willamette Valley wines, including his super Willamette Valley Chardonnay, a rare (and delicious) Willamette Valley Dolcetto (!!), and a super single-vineyard Pinot Noir, the 2018 Jeffry's Block Pinot Noir.  As many customers know, Bryn Mawr is Welsh for "High Hill," which describes a property that sits from 650 to 820 feet above sea level, exposing the vines to the brunt of the winds that course through the Van Duzer Corridor from the Pacific.  Consulting winemaker Rachel Rose is a graduate of the University of Adelaide in South Australia, where she received her M.S. in Oenology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Viticulture.  Rachel's extensive winemaking experience in Australia, New Zealand and Oregon, combined with Bryn Mawr's superb vineyard sites, produces fabulous results- wines that rate among the best not just of Oregon, but of the world!

Join David for a sampling of these classic Pacific Northwest wines!

FREE FRENCH WINE TASTING: FRIDAY, 25 FEBRUARY 5-7 PM

Andy Joseph of Winebow will share four wines from his extensive French portfolio for FREE tasting Friday evening.  We'll start with Domaine Paul Buisse's Touraine Sauvignon Blanc, a 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley that is a great substitute for increasingly pricy (and currently almost impossible to obtain) Sancerre Blanc.  Next Andy will share one of our largest selling French white wines over the last several years- Domaine LaFage's "Cote Est" white blend.  This great blend from the Rousillon region mirrors the white blends of the nearby Rhone Valley to great effect!  Next we'll go to the Rhone Valley itself, for a classic Grenache-Syrah blend from the Ventoux subregion- the always highly-rated Chateau Pesquie Les Terrasses.  And speaking of highly rated, we'll finish with the 95-point-rated Domaine Lafage "Cuvee Nicolas" Grenache Noir.  This fantastic red virtually bursts from the glass with a character of raspberry, cassis, blueberries, and blackberries.

So join us Friday for this super French lineup!  As always, all of these wines will be on sale all day!

FREE SOUTH AFRICAN WINE TASTING!

SATURDAY, 26 FEBRUARY, 1-4:30 PM!!

Alyssa Wolf of Red Wolf Imports visits Finewine.com on Saturday for a FREE afternoon wine tasting!  She'll start with a superb example of a classic South African wine, Kaapzicht's Chenin Blanc.  We'll stack this fully dry Chenin up against any similarly priced example from France's famous Vouvray region!  Next Alyssa will pour one of the great rosés of South Africa- Babylonstoren's Mourvedre Rosé.  Mourvedre is the same grape used to create France's famous (and very expensive) Bandol rosé- and this wine echoes those great French versions.  Next, we'll taste two South African reds, beginning with Kaapzicht's "Kaleidoscope" Red Blend.  This blend includes just about every red-wine grape that creates great wine in the Cape Region- Pinotage, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, even Malbec!  Finally, we'll finish with Villiera's "Down to Earth" Touriga Nacional-Shiraz blend, a very rare example of the great Portuguese grape Touriga Nacional from outside of its home in northern Portugal.

And as always, you'll get 10% off all tasting wines not already on sale!
