In some, the name evokes mouthwatering anticipation; in others- who remember the often insipid Chiantis of the 1970s- the name evokes yawns; and in some it reminds them of a memorable line from the fictional villian Hannibal Lecter (about which, the less said, the better). Highly-rated Classico for below $20 is Selected from the best grapes of Donna Laura's vineyards, Bramosia is produced via a painstaking process that includes careful grape selection during harvest, fermentation at controlled temperatures, extended maceration, and partial oak aging. Another reason for the wine's richness is the addition of 15% Merlot to the blend, beautifully complementing the dominant Sangiovese, the great native grape of Tuscany. Donna Laura modestly describes this delicious wine as follows: "With a deep ruby red color and an intense aroma of cherries and red fruit, this Chianti Classico expresses a good balance between the notes of ripe fruit and acidity, with well-integrated hints of wood and spices. It goes very well with roast meats and tasty first courses." It's never the wrong time to open a bottle of Chianti Classico!
