This 92 point Bordeaux Supérieur is the next great bargain red!

2018 Château de Goëlane Bordeaux Supérieur: A classic 92-pt Bordeaux for ONLY $17.98!

"Chateau de Goëlane is an easy-to-drink, fruit-forward red.  The cherry and dark fruit aromas that dominate the nose are equally present on the palate, with an ample, fleshy mouthfeel.  The Cabernet Sauvignon that thrives on the estate's chalky clay slopes and makes up 25% of the blend, brings structure and a hint of spice.  At once dense and supple, Chateau de Goëlane is remarkable for its overall elegance." - Decanter, 92 pts

Certain categories of fine wine present challenges in the search for high quality at modest prices, and red Bordeaux is a case in point.  There's plenty of modestly priced Bordeaux Rouge, and no real shortage of well-rated wines; the hard part is finding a wine where the two categories overlap!  With inflationary pressure, supply-chain disruptions, and on-again-off-again tariffs, the search is as challenging as ever.  So this week we're thrilled to report we've obtained a new Bordeaux that is both reasonably priced and top-notch!  Château de Goëlane Bordeaux Supérieur 2018 is a lovely mix of balance and weight; rated 92 points by Decanter magazine, this very hard-to-find Bordeaux is also a steal at our sale price of $17.98/bottle!

One secret to this wine's affordability is that it hails from Entre-Deux-Mers, the Bordeaux subregion situated between the rivers Garonne and Dordogne (it's the purple section on the accompanying map).  Entre-Deux-Mers historically produced mainly solid, if unspectacular, white wines, though more recently producers have increasingly turned towards red wine production.  Entre-Deux-Mers doesn't produce any famous wines, so its best wines are often real bargains!  Chateau de Goëlane is a great example, situated in the center of Entre-Deux-Mers on a top-quality site.  Its vineyards are largely calcareous clay- unsurprising given the predominance of Merlot in the blend.  According to vineyard manager Pascal Dejean, "The Goëlane vineyard is made up of about 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, planted mostly on south-facing slopes with fantastic sun exposure. Our Merlot is also planted on slopes, where the limestone is at a depth of about 30cm, so the roots are deeply embedded in the rock."  This is definitely a terroir-driven wine!

The 2018 Chateau de Goëlane is approachable at three years of age, and should drink nicely over the next several years.  We had to wait several months to finally obtain our initial supply, and expect Finewine.com to be one of the few retailers able to offer this fine example of Red Bordeaux.  By the way, we believe that Chateau de Goëlane justifies its ratings, and that's not always the case when we taste well-rated wines (some of which we pass on).  And to answer another common question, we might be able to obtain more, though not for some weeks.  So why wait?  This beauty is available now, at the super-affordable price of only $17.98!  So stop by the store, order online, or call 301-987-5933!
