FREE WINE TASTING AT FINEWINE.COM!

Four wines recommended by the Washington Post!

SATURDAY, 1-4:30 PM!!

Rob Garretson of Global wines visits Finewine.com on Saturday for a FREE afternoon wine tasting!   He'll be pouring four wines, each of which has been recommended by Dave McIntyre of the Washington Post.  He'll start with Cantina Colli Euganei Pinot Grigio Della Venezie, a lovely Italian white that is our idea of what Pinot Grigio should be.  Next we'll go with a classic crisp, dry Provence Rose- the 2020 "Pampelonette" Rose.  Finally, we'll taste two contrasting reds- Robert Debuisson's 2020 Beaujolais-Villages Rouge, a bouncy, fruity Beaujolais with real depth- and a Spanish Red, Pablo Claro's Cabernet Sauvignon-Graciano blend- a rare combination of the most famous of red grapes and a little known grape native to Spain.

And as always, you'll get 10% off all tasting wines not already on sale!

The perfect summer wine at a perfect price!

2020 Mar de Vinas Albariño: The classic Spanish white for ONLY $16.98!

"Citrusy, with a hint of salinity from the ocean breeze off the Atlantic, this wine brightens your palate the way a squirt of lemon lifts the flavors of any dish. The fish on the label suggests the perfect food pairing."- Dave McIntyre (Washington Post), 3 Stars (Exceptional)

If we had to name the single varietal we most often recommend customers try for the first time, it would probably be Albariño.  Partly that's because, while everyone seems to know Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and even Riesling, relatively few seem familiar with Spain's most distinctive and distinguished white grape.  If you enjoy Vinho Verde- the light, fresh Portuguese white- then you really should try Albariño from Rias Baixas, a region just across the border in Spain.  These Albariños are bigger and more complex than the often simple Vinho Verde, though they share the freshness and acidity of their Portuguese cousin.  This week's Wine of the Week is one of our favorite examples, Adegas Gran Vinum's "Mar de Vinas" Albariño.  We think the 2020 Mar de Vinas the best in years, and the Washington Post's Dave McIntyre seems to agree: he assigned it his 3 Star ("Exceptional") rating!  And while the quality is up over 2019, our sale price of only $16.98/bottle isn't!

Mar de Vinas translates as "Sea of Vines", and that reference to the sea is apt- the grapes are grown in close proximity to the ocean, the finished wine embodies the freshness and salinity of the sea, and Mar de Vinas is a classic match for fresh seafood!  Adegas Gran Vinum is a family-owned winery that dates from 2002.  They planted vineyards on steep, sandy, south-facing slopes near the ocean, which minimizes temperature swings and extends maturation times, providing more spice, saline and fruity varietal character to the finished wines.  Cultivation is strictly traditional: vineyards are fertilized with clam and cockle shells and closely pruned, then grapes are hand-harvested into small boxes, after which grapes are carefully selected for vinification.  Adegas Grand Vinum exclusively produces Albariño, the internationally renowned white grape of Galicia.  Albariño is intensely aromatic, has excellent natural acidity, and (unlike most politicians) is thick-skinned- and thus uniquely suited to the cool, damp growing conditions typical of Rias Baixas.  In rating the wine 90+ points, View from the Cellar described the 2020 Mar de Vinas as offering "an aromatic constellation of lemon, green apple, salty minerality, a bit of ocean breeze and a topnote of lemongrass. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and complex, with an impressive core of fruit, lovely mineral undertow, zesty acids and a long, poised and vibrant finish."

Summer is officially here, and Mar de Vinas is the perfect summer wine.  The adjectives speak for themselves: vibrant, fresh, racy, saline, fruity, citrusy, intense, mineral, balanced.  By all means, open a bottle of this refreshing white at your next party, at the pool. or when streaming whatever you're currently binge-watching, but please do try this with grilled fish, or with your favorite shellfish.  Given Rias Baixas' proximity to the sea, Albariños like Mar de Vinas are routinely paired with whatever has just come off the local Spanish fishing boats, and the match is a classic.  Please give this lovely Albariño a try at our sale price of only $16.98!  Stop by the store, order online, or call 301-987-5933!

This 92 point Bordeaux Supérieur is the next great bargain red!

2018 Château de Goëlane Bordeaux Supérieur: A classic 92-pt Bordeaux for ONLY $17.98!

"Chateau de Goëlane is an easy-to-drink, fruit-forward red.  The cherry and dark fruit aromas that dominate the nose are equally present on the palate, with an ample, fleshy mouthfeel.  The Cabernet Sauvignon that thrives on the estate's chalky clay slopes and makes up 25% of the blend, brings structure and a hint of spice.  At once dense and supple, Chateau de Goëlane is remarkable for its overall elegance." - Decanter, 92 pts
