The new vintage of a favorite Spanish red!

Prima Toro 2018: 92 points, classic character, still only $19.98!

"It's a blend of Tinta de Toro (a.k.a. Tempranillo) and 15% Garnacha and other varieties...it's creamy but has more integrated oak...this has an approachable profile that is aromatic and floral, and it's juicy and has a succulent palate. It's fruit-driven and polished by one year in bottle. This has to be one of the finest Primas to date." —Wine Advocate, 92 points

Long-time customers and Spanish wine lovers know the wines of Bodegas y Vinedos San Roman, a family-owned winery founded by iconic winemaker Mariano Garcia in 1998, and since joined by his sons Alberto and Eduardo.  Mariano's vision was to produce world-class wines that balanced freshness and longevity, in contrast to the renowned power of the wines of Toro (Toro, in Castilla y Leon in north-western Spain, is known for powerful, full-bodied reds made from "Tinta de Toro"- the local name for Tempranillo).  Prima is the estate's entry-level wine, costing a fraction of its big brothers, San Román and Cartago Paraje de Pozo.  But this is no ordinary Spanish table wine; it routinely earns multiple 90+-point scores in every vintage.  The 2018 Prima Toro is no exception, scoring 92-points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and 92 points from View from the Cellar.

As we noted above, the Toro region is known for big, powerful, expressive reds, and Bodegas y Vinedos San Roman certainly delivers on that score.  Don't let their Prima bottling's "entry-level" designation fool you; this is a wine that consistently delivers above its price point.  "The wine comes in at 14.5 percent octane and offers up a fine nose of black cherries, plums, cigar wrapper, a nice touch of soil, and a gentle framing of nutty oak. On the palate, the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with good focus and grip, fine nascent complexity and a long, ripely tannic and nicely balanced finish" according to View from the Cellar, which awarded the wine 92 points. "This carries its octane very well indeed, and though there is a hint of backend heat, the wine will age very gracefully and is quite impressive."  The 2018 Prima offers a rare combination that is very difficult to find in the world of fine wine: power and finesse.

Prima Toro is one of our favorite wines, and we have now carried ten consecutive vintages of this world-class bargain.  Year after year, it serves to introduce our customers to top-notch Tempranillo and the richness of Toro, at an approachable price.  And that's exactly what the 2018 vintage delivers!  Prima has been a customer favorite at Finewine.com for years, so we try to keep it below $25 a bottle if at all possible.  Our regular price of $22.99 is a bargain, but our Wine of the Week price of just $19.98 is an absolute steal!  We always have strong demand for this wine, so if you want your share, don't delay.  Order online now, call 301-987-5933, or stop by the store today!

SOMETHING YOU'VE NEVER TASTED BEFORE: A GREAT ITALIAN WHITE FROM A TINY, LITTLE-KNOWN REGION!

90-PT-RATED ZENATO LUGANA SAN BENEDETTO 2018 IS $18.98

"Bright citrus, aromatic herb and spring blossom aromas take center stage on this refreshing white. The crisp, savory palate delivers Bartlett pear, peach, lemon zest and a hint of ginger before closing on a white almond note." - Wine Enthusiast, 90 Points

Knowing which wines to trust and to try is something of an art form, but one secret to selecting the best is to know which producers have a consistent record of excellence.  Zenato is one such name, the producer of some of our favorite wines from Italy's Veneto region.  Finewine.com carries a number of Zenato's Rosso (red) wines, but today we're featuring one of the truly unique white wines that they produce in their vineyards overlooking Lake Garda.  Zenato's 2018 Lugana San Benedetto is a crisp, citrusy, spicy, and simply delicious wine that shows why Italian whites have such universal appeal.  This 90-point rated beauty is a wine that even experienced wine professionals may never have tasted, so here's your chance to taste something truly unique!
