Mariano's vision was to produce world-class wines that balanced freshness and longevity, in contrast to the renowned power of the wines of Toro (Toro, in Castilla y Leon in north-western Spain, is known for powerful, full-bodied reds made from "Tinta de Toro"- the local name for Tempranillo). Prima is the estate's entry-level wine, costing a fraction of its big brothers, San Román and Cartago Paraje de Pozo. But this is no ordinary Spanish table wine; it routinely earns multiple 90+-point scores in every vintage. The 2018 Prima Toro is no exception, scoring 92-points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and 92 points from View from the Cellar. 
The Mediterranean basin is home to wines that first charmed our ancient ancestors ("Wine sets even a thoughtful man to singing."- Homer). The waters of the Mediterranean influence diverse and distinctive wine regions, including those of Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Greece, Puglia, Calabria, Turkey, Israel, and other coastal regions of France, Spain and Italy. The grapes of these regions vary, and include some that may be familiar (Cannanou (Grenache), Montepulciano, Monastrell) and others less well known (Grillo, Xinomavro, Monica, Agiorgitiko).
