FREE SPANISH WINE TASTING AT FINEWINE.COM!

FIVE of our Spanish favorites- all on sale!  SATURDAY, 1-4:30 PM!!

Grapes of Spain's Michael Anez will pour five of our favorite Spanish wines at Finewine.com this Saturday for a FREE afternoon wine tasting!  We'll sample five contrasting wines- 2 whites, a rose, and two reds!  We'll start with Luna Beberide's Godello, one of those uniquely Spanish grapes that you really should try, and follow with a unique white wine from Spain's Basque region, Txakoli Malda Blanco.  The third wine is the crowd-pleasing Legado del Moncayo Rose, a crisp rose made from the Grenache grape, followed by that wine's metaphorical big brother.  Legado del Moncayo's Garnacha Vendimmia Seleccionada (select harvest) is a superb value red made from the same Garnacha fruit.  We'll close the tasting with a true Spanish classic- Vina Otano's Rioja Reserva 2015.

As always you'll get at least 10% off all of the wines we taste!

TRULY DIFFERENT- AND TRULY DELICIOUS!!

This 91-point German Rosé of Pinot Noir is an absolute delight!

"The 2020 Villa Wolf Pinot Noir delivers a whole regiment of deliciousness. This wine exhibits lovely aromas and flavors of ripe red fruit and earth.  Pair it with grilled prawns in a piquant sauce." —Wilford Wong, Wine.com: 91 points

When you see an equine profile, it's only natural to assume that you are observing a horse, but every once in a while a zebra makes an appearance- and today's feature wine falls into the metaphorical "zebra" category!  Rosés vary in hue, in character, in sweetness, and in flavor, but most come from relatively familiar sources- southern French regions such as Provence and the Languedoc, coastal regions of California, several wine regions throughout Spain and Italy.  In contrast, top-flight German rosé is a rarity- partly because white wine dominates production in Germany's cooler climate.  So, when we tasted Ernst Loosen's 2020 "Villa Wolf" Rosé from Germany's Pfalz region, it came as something of a revelation.  This rosé of Pinot Noir ("Spatburgunder" in German)- is absolutely delicious, with a pronounced character of red fruits (think raspberry and cherry).  We loved it when we tasted it, and you will too- especially at this week's sale price of $17.98!

The Pfalz is relatively warm and sunny (by German standards), and thus often called “the Tuscany of Germany”.  Pinot varieties thrive there, and Villa Wolf Rosé itself has a super track record.  The last four vintages were all rated "Best Buy" by Wine Enthusiast, and while the 2020 vintage is not yet Enthusiast rated, we think it may be the best yet!  The 2020 Villa Wolf Rosé is a true rosé- meaning it's made with a brief maceration before pressing to extract the lovely salmon color.  It is light and refreshing, with deliciously bright berry and fruit flavors and a clean, zippy finish characteristic of Pinot Noir rosé.  While Villa Wolf Rosé is a perfect match for dishes such as ham and poultry, it's super on its own and the ultimate crowd-pleaser.  Try the following experiment: open this wine in a crowded room, and see if a party breaks out!

When we tasted the 2020 Villa Wolf Rosé, we easily rated the wine 90 points, and three things in particular caught our attention.  Our tasting notes emphasized the pronounced and vibrant red fruit character that shines through the wine, the vibrant acidity that keeps the wine fresh and lively, and the wine's lovely, plush texture.  This is one of our more surprising and delightful finds of the year.  For lovers of rosé, this is a real must, and if you've never tasted a German rosé, this is a great one to start with!  And at our Wine of the Week price of $17.98, it's as easy on the wallet as it is delightful on the palate!  Order online now, call 301-987-5933, or stop by the store today.

STILL A FEW SEATS FOR WEDNESDAY'S WINE CLASS

"Mediterranean Magic: Wines of the Mediterranean"  August 11 & 12 (SOLD OUT) @ 7PM

Taste as many as 12 classic wines with light fare to complement them!

The Mediterranean basin is home to wines that first charmed our ancient ancestors ("Wine sets even a thoughtful man to singing."- Homer).  The waters of the Mediterranean influence diverse and distinctive wine regions, including those of Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Greece, Puglia, Calabria, Turkey, Israel, and other coastal regions of France, Spain and Italy.  The grapes of these regions vary, and include some that may be familiar (Cannanou (Grenache), Montepulciano, Monastrell) and others less well known (Grillo, Xinomavro, Monica, Agiorgitiko).

In this class, we’ll taste a diverse range of wines from throughout the Mediterranean, some of which will be new to most attendees.  So join us in August for our next monthly wine class: Mediterranean Magic: the Wines of the Mediterranean.  We’ll taste and compare as many as 12 classic wines, with light hors d’oeuvres to complement them.  Tasting classes at Finewine.com are geared to both beginners and experienced wine aficionados alike, and this class will have a little something for everyone.  So, join the expert Finewine.com staff as we explore some of the greatest wines of this sun-kissed, historic region.  Come taste, learn, discuss and enjoy: https://www.finewine.com/topics/Top-Bargains-g3410764gy
